Collection: Seafood Rubs & Seasonings

Fish and shrimp cook fast and pick up seasoning even faster, so the right blend does most of the work. This collection has every seasoning we carry that works on seafood: dedicated fish and shrimp rubs, blackening and Cajun blends, lemon pepper and garlic butter seasonings, plus the all-purpose rubs that hold up on salmon, shrimp, and crab just as well as they do on the smoker. Start with what you're cooking and how you're cooking it, and the right pick gets obvious quick.

Picking a Seafood Seasoning

For salmon and other firm fish, a dedicated fish rub like Rub Some Fish or Rufus Teague Fish Rub, or a bright citrus blend like Heath Riles Simple Citrus, keeps the flavor clean. Shrimp, scallops, and crab love butter and garlic, which is where Killer Hogs Off Shore Buttery Seafood Seasoning and Heath Riles Cajun Creole Garlic Butter shine. If you want heat and a dark crust in a hot cast iron pan or on the grill, reach for a blackening blend from Lane's or Obie-Cue's. For a boil or anything with a Gulf Coast lean, Malcom's King Craw Cajun and Blues Hog Cajun Bayou bring the spice.

Kansas City is better known for brisket than bass, but local names like Plowboys BBQ, Jack Stack, and JDQ make blends that work on the grill no matter what's on it, and they sit right next to seafood standbys like Lane's, Heath Riles, Obie-Cue's, and Killer Hogs.

Want some heat on the table for your shrimp? Browse our hot and wing sauces. Cooking more than seafood this weekend? Our chicken and poultry rubs, beef rubs and seasonings, and pork and rib rubs are organized the same way.

Why Shop This Collection

  • Dedicated fish and shrimp seasonings plus every all-purpose rub we carry that works on seafood, all in one spot
  • Covers the cooks people actually make: grilled salmon, shrimp skewers, blackened fish, crab, and seafood boils
  • Plenty of lemon pepper, garlic butter, Cajun, and blackening options
  • Many of these do double duty, so one shaker covers fish night and chicken night

Seafood Seasoning FAQ

What's a good seasoning for grilled salmon?
A fish rub like Rub Some Fish or a citrus blend like Heath Riles Simple Citrus is a safe bet. Lemon pepper works too if you want something simple and bright.

Can I use a BBQ rub on shrimp?
Yes. Savory and all-purpose rubs work well on shrimp, and sweeter rubs caramelize nicely on the grill. Shrimp only needs a couple of minutes per side, so keep the heat high and the cook short.

When should I season fish?
Right before it goes on the heat. Salt pulls moisture out of delicate fish if it sits too long, so season and cook rather than seasoning hours ahead.

What temperature is fish done?
Fish is safe at 145°F, when the flesh turns opaque and flakes easily with a fork. Pull it as soon as it gets there, since thin fillets dry out fast.
