Flavor Details
Real wood and charcoal smoke, steady heat across every rack, and a grill grate for searing when the brisket is resting. That is what a backyard cook wants from one pit, and it is exactly how this one was built. The American Barbecue Systems All-Star is an offset charcoal and hardwood smoker and grill that gives you over 1,152 square inches of stainless smoking space plus a 288 square inch stainless grilling grate on one American made unit.
The All-Star was designed with the backyard barbecue enthusiast in mind. A full-length firebox runs the length of the cook chamber, with a heat shield and three dampers so you can dial in heat and smoke. Three slide-out stainless steel smoking racks handle the low and slow work over indirect heat, with room for briskets, pork butts and full slabs of ribs at the same time. When you want to sear steaks or cook burgers, the stainless grilling grate puts food over direct heat. All cooking surfaces are stainless steel, which makes cleanup quick.
The details are where this pit earns its keep. A large, easy to read high temperature gauge shows you what is happening inside. The large smokebox door seals with screw-tight knobs, and heavy duty hinges hold it true cook after cook. An internal ash removal rake system lets you clean out the firebox without a mess, and a 1 1/2 inch brass ball valve drains juices. Stainless cool-touch handles, stainless work shelves and a removable condiment tray keep your tools and sauces close. The fire grate is heavy expanded metal on a rod frame for durability.
It rides on 10 inch wheels with a full-length axle, so you can roll it around the patio, and it is finished in durable high temperature paint over heavy gauge material, fabricated and welded by experienced professionals in the USA. If you want one pit that can smoke a brisket all night and sear a ribeye the next evening, the All-Star is built for it.

How do I pick the right rub for what I'm cooking?
How do I pick the right rub for what I'm cooking?
Start with the protein. Beef loves coarse, pepper-forward rubs. Pork and chicken take well to sweeter, sugar-based blends. Fish and veggies want something lighter. Every product page tells you what the rub was built for, and if you're stuck between two, ask us. We cook with this stuff every weekend.
How long do rubs and sauces stay good?
How long do rubs and sauces stay good?
Unopened, most rubs hold peak flavor for about a year and sauces until the date on the bottle. Once opened, keep rubs sealed away from heat and humidity (not on the shelf above the grill) and refrigerate sauces after opening. If it still smells strong, it still cooks strong.
What if a flavor isn't what I expected?
What if a flavor isn't what I expected?
Give it a second shot before you shelve it. Rubs behave differently depending on the protein, the heat, and how heavy you go. A blend that's just okay on chicken is often unbelievable on pork ribs, and most sauces open up when they're brushed on during the last few minutes instead of after. If you tell us what you cooked and how, we'll tell you how to get the most out of the bottle you've got.
